Simplicity is necessary.
But it’s not easy.
In my own world, I’m seeing a lot of creatives being pushed to over explain.
It’s like a movie where the director doesn’t trust the audience enough to sit in a heavy scene. Instead of letting the moment breathe, they add extra dialogue, a flashback, a joke. Anything to make sure you “get it.”
However, the best writing I’ve ever seen shows restraint.
Like “5-Second Makeup.”
It says just enough with an interesting claim, then steps away so the reader is tempted to learn more on their own.
Should I send these straight to you?
GOBSMACKED is my weekly newsletter exploring copywriting through personal experiences and what we’re seeing in the wild.
(Almost) every Monday, I share observations on creative work, copywriting trends, and advertising, along with a handful of pretty examples.
